What Is Second Skin?
Second skin is a transparent medical-grade dressing applied over your fresh tattoo. It shields the area from dirt, friction, and bacteria while helping the skin regenerate in a controlled environment.
How to Care for a Tattoo with Second Skin
1. Leave It On
Your artist will apply the film right after your tattoo session. Keep it on for the amount of time recommended — usually 3–5 days depending on your tattoo and placement.
2. Removing the Film
When it’s time, peel it away gently from a corner under warm running water. Don’t rip it off dry.
3. Clean the Tattoo
Wash the area with lukewarm water and mild, fragrance-free soap. Pat dry gently.
4. Moisturise Lightly
Apply a thin layer of tattoo aftercare cream once the tattoo is clean and dry. Continue this daily until the tattoo has fully healed.
What to Expect with Second Skin
✅ Plasma Under the Film: Bubbling and cloudiness under the dressing is completely normal.
✅ Dry Phase: After the first couple of days, your body begins to reabsorb the plasma. The area will start to dry out as the healing continues.
✅ Ease of Care: You can shower normally while wearing it — just avoid soaking in water.
✅ Fluid on Removal: When you take off the Second Skin, you may notice some fluid or ink residue on it. This isn’t the tattoo coming away — it’s just the natural healing plasma that has built up underneath.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
❌ Leaving the film on longer than advised.
❌ Removing it dry or too quickly.
❌ Using harsh soaps or scented lotions afterward.
After Removal Care
Once the second skin is off, your tattoo will continue healing like normal. Keep washing it gently and applying lotion until your skin looks fully settled and smooth.
